A word from the icons
With all the advances in styling, is the hair cut still critical?
Great hair cuts are still what bring people into the salon. A great bob, a great shape to the hair – when someone sees that, they’ll ask where the person got their hair cut. A hair cut gives confidence & the inspiration to try new things. But the finish is important too. A really good blow dry, coupled with the best styling tools is important. And whether the cut is short or long, everyone has a product & a finish to give them extraordinary results.
What should clients look for in a hair stylist?
People should try to find a hairdresser who wants to provide guidance & get involved in the look, not someone who simply asks ‘What do you want today?’ A high skill level is important, & a professional stylist will maintain the skill through education. Hairdressers should seek out education & make the craft a vital part of their lives; it’s not just a job – they live it & breathe it.
What influences you?
Once you’re a hairdresser, you’re always a hairdresser. Wherever you are, whatever you do, you always notice the hair because it has such an impact on the wearer’s confidence & attitude.
Today, there’s much adventure in the entertainment industry. Being adventurous ourselves, we look to musicians like Rhianna & Lady Gaga, incredible examples of pulling together hair colour, style & fashion to create a total look. They’re style never stands still, & they always make it work.
